Cannabis butter, or cannabutter, is the essential ingredient to cannabis-infused edibles. Most weed edibles, including the infamous brownies, use cannabutter to produce a high, and it’s one of the best ways to enjoy cannabis if you don’t want to smoke it.

Modern edibles don’t stop at baked goods. With cannabutter, the possibilities for cooking infused cuisine are endless β€” anywhere you use butter or fat in a recipe, you can sub in some cannabutter.

Are you ready to elevate your cooking game with a homemade infusion? Cannabutter, a versatile cannabis-infused butter, is the perfect addition to your culinary adventures. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a kitchen novice, making cannabutter is a straightforward process that can elevate your favorite recipes to new heights. Follow these simple steps to create your own batch of cannabutter at home.

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

  • 1 cup of unsalted butter

  • 1 cup (7-10 grams) of ground cannabis flower or trimmings

  • Water

Step 2: Decarboxylate Your Cannabis

  • Preheat your oven to 240Β°F (115Β°C).

  • Spread your ground cannabis evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cannabis becomes dry and slightly toasted. This process activates the THC, making it more potent.

Step 3: Infuse the Butter

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of butter.

  • Simmer on low heat until the butter is melted.

  • Once the butter is melted, add your decarboxylated cannabis to the saucepan.

  • Simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. Make sure the mixture never comes to a boil, as this can degrade the cannabinoids.

Step 4: Strain and Chill

  • After simmering, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool slightly.

  • Set a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a heatproof container or bowl.

  • Carefully pour the mixture through the strainer to separate the plant matter from the liquid.

  • Press down on the plant matter to extract as much liquid as possible.

  • Refrigerate the liquid until the butter solidifies and separates from the water.

  • Discard the water, and your cannabutter is ready to use!

Step 5: Enjoy Responsibly

  • Use your homemade cannabutter in your favorite recipes, such as cookies, brownies, or savory dishes.

  • Start with small doses and wait at least 1-2 hours before consuming more to gauge its potency.

  • Store any leftover cannabutter in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer for future use.

Making cannabutter is a rewarding and simple process that allows you to enjoy the benefits of cannabis in your favorite homemade dishes. By following these easy steps, you can elevate your cooking game and create delicious infused treats to share with friends or enjoy on your own. So roll up your sleeves, gather your ingredients, and let’s get cooking!
